To apply for employment with the City of Upland you must complete and submit a City application to Human Resources by 6:00 p.m. on the deadline date. A resume cannot be submitted in lieu of an application. Postmarks, Faxes, or E-Mails will not be accepted.
Your application will be carefully reviewed. This review determines if your work experience and educational background meet the qualification guidelines. Only the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in successive parts of the selection process. Possession of these qualifications does not ensure that an applicant will be interviewed. Applications will be reviewed in comparison with all other applications received. If you do not meet the qualification guidelines, you will be notified by mail.
Applicants are responsible for notifying Human Resources of address and phone number changes.
Applicants with legally defined disabilities may call (909) 931-4177 to request reasonable accommodation in the application, testing or interview process. All requests must be made prior to or at the time of filing the application. Applicants may be required to provide documentation supporting the need for the accommodation.
The selection process for each classification is stated on the job flyer. Some classifications require written and/or performance tests. Exams allow you to demonstrate that you possess the basic knowledge, abilities, and skills that are required to perform the job. Examinations, in general, may include the following components:
To ensure consistency and fairness for each applicant, the basic format for each interview is the same. An interview panel composed of two or more persons will evaluate how well your experience, education, and other qualifications have prepared you for the position you are applying for. The panel members will ask a series of job-related questions and take notes during the interview. These notes will assist the panel in rating your responses after the interview. At the end of the interview, you will have a brief opportunity to add anything you feel would describe your qualifications.
Once you have been selected and accepted the job offer, the next steps of the hiring process take place. Full-time employment is contingent on passing a post-offer, pre-employment medical examination including drug screening. No candidates will be offered employment until references are checked. In addition, as required by Federal law, you must provide legal authorization to work in the United States. There are several documents that meet these requirements. A United States passport will satisfy the requirement. A state-issued driver’s license together with an original Social Security Card are sufficient documentation as well.
After you have met all pre-employment requirements, a hire date will be set. You will be sworn in as a City employee and invited to an orientation session that will provide information on the City policies and benefits.
The City provides an outstanding benefits plan. Some benefits vary depending on bargaining unit and employee status. Employee benefits may include:
