Literacy News

Thanks, Target!

Thanks to a generous Early Childhood Reading Grant from Target, we're able to sustain our Families For Literacy (FFL) outreach storytimes at Upland HeadStart, Tiny Tots, and Pacific Lifeline Shelter for fiscal year 2009-2010. The purpose of FFL outreach is to break the illiteracy cycle by reading books to children who may not have ready access to books at home or to the Library.

Aim High for Literacy!

Despite their lack of familiarity with TV shows that were originally broadcast before they were born, the Upland Highlanders won the 2010 Trivia Bee trophy, with the Tutor Titans following in 2nd place, and the ever-entertaining Solar Gods (RCC Solar) in 3rd place. The Friends of the Upland Public Library and Team Biane, also provided fierce competition. The big winner of the night is the Adult Literacy Program -- over $14,400 was raised!

Many thanks to the Brandt Family Winery, Chipotle, Molly's Souper, and Spaggi's for providing a delicious light supper.
