Red Light Traffic Cameras
Photograph System at Intersections
The installation of red light cameras at the intersections of Foothill Blvd. and Mountain Ave. and Foothill Blvd. and Euclid Ave. is complete. The cameras are now photographing red light violators. The Police Department anticipates a reduction in traffic collisions at these two intersections similar to the reduction at Mountain Ave. and 8th St. In the first four months the cameras were operational at that intersection there was an 11% increase in vehicles traveling through the intersection and a 6% reduction in traffic collisions.
The California Vehicle Code required a 30 day grace period for the initial intersection equipped with a camera system. This was done at Mountain Ave. and 8th St. Therefore the 30 day grace period does not apply at the two new intersections. As with the other intersections photographs will only be taken if a motorist fails to stop for the red light.
