Bill Velto has been a resident of Upland for more than 60 years and is one of nine children of the late Al and Gloria Velto. He credits his parents with instilling in him the values of honesty, integrity, and respect, principles that continue to guide his personal and professional life.

A product of Upland schools, Bill was actively involved in local youth sports, including Little League, Pony League, Upland High School football, and soccer. He and his wife, Jody Velto, a local Realtor, raised four children in Upland, all of whom attended Upland schools and participated extensively in the city’s youth sports programs. Two of their children served as Associated Student Body Presidents during their senior year at Upland High School.

The Velto children include Kristen Dowling, Head Coach of the Whittier College Women’s Basketball Team; Natalie Velto, a local artist; Alex Velto, an attorney practicing in Reno, Nevada, who currently serves on the Reno City Planning Commission; and Billy Velto, who works in the Operations Department for the Empire Strykers organization.

Bill is President of MGR Real Estate, Inc., providing him with extensive knowledge of the region's residential and commercial real estate markets. Through his professional work, he assists residents and businesses considering relocation and is a strong advocate for promoting Upland as an exceptional place to live, work, and invest.

His community involvement includes many years of service on the Local Candidate Review Committee for the Inland Valley Association of Realtors, where he met with elected officials throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. He also serves on the Mt. San Antonio College Real Estate Education Committee.
Bill served in the United States Navy, an experience he credits with shaping his leadership skills and lifelong commitment to public service.

Prior to being elected Mayor of Upland, Bill was appointed to the Upland City Council and served for many years on the Upland Planning Commission, including as Vice Chairman. He currently serves on several local boards, including the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA), the Water Facilities Authority (WFA), San Antonio Water Company, SAWCo, (as Chief Financial Officer), Chino Basin Watermaster, Omnitrans, and other regional organizations.

Bill believes Upland is an exceptional place to grow up and raise a family. He has dedicated his career to serving the community and remains committed to preserving and advancing Upland’s proud tradition as “The City of Gracious Living.” He also believes that by working together, the community can continue to make Upland an even better place to call home.
